Information on Application for Visitor Visa to the Republic of China

Eligible Persons

Foreign nationals, who hold passports or travel documents issued by 
foreign governments with validity of more than six months, and who 
wish to stay for less than six months in the Republic of China to engage 
in the following activities:

1. Transit
2. Sightseeing
3. Visiting close relatives
4. Visit (with letter of invitation)
5. Study or training
6. Doing business
7. Technical assistance
8. Medical treatment
9. Other legitimate activities

Requirements

1. One duly completed application form;
2. Incoming and outgoing airline or steamship ticket or confirmation 
    letter from a travel agency;
3. Documents verifying the purpose of visit, if required:
”@(1)Studying Chinese language, arts or crafts: Documents issued by a 
    competent  authsrity or a government approved academic/research 
    institution.
”@(2)Visiting close relatives: Documents verifying relationship, e.g., 
    Extract of Household Registration, or Alien Resident Certificate.
”@(3)Receiving medical treatment: certificate issued by a hospital.
”@(4)Rendering technical assistance: Letter from the dispatching 
    manufacturer.
 (5)Doing business: Business letter, cable or telex between a local 
    enterprise and its foreign counterpart.
”@(6)Visit: Letter of invitation.
”@(7)Other relevant documents.
4. One photo;
5. A letter of guarantee, if required.

Visa Validity

1. For foreign nationals from countries with which the R.O.C. has 
entered into reciprocal visa agreement, the validity of visa shall be 
decided in accordance with the said agreement.

2. For other foreign nationals, visa is valid for three month unless 
otherwise stipulated.

Duration of Stay
From two weeks up to sixty days

Fee

1. For foreign nationals from countries with which the R.O.C. has 
    entered into reciprocal visa agreements, visa is issued free of charge.

2. For other foreign nationals, visa fees are as follows:
”@ Single entry:-N.T.$500
”@ Multiple entries:-N.T.$1,000

Remarks

1. Visitor Visa holders may stay in the R.O.C. for sixty days and may, 
on good grounds, apply at the nearest city/county police headquarters 
for a maximum of two extensions, each for sixty days.

2. No extension of stay will be granted to those who hold the Visitor 
Visa with duration of ”@stay restricted to two weeks, except for 
situations caused by force majeure or matters of vital importance.

3. Visitor visa holders are not permitted to accept employment in the 
R.O.C. without prior approval.
