Chinese Language Teaching Assistant Program


The Institute of International Education is seeking several native Mandarin Chinese speakers with one or two years of experience teaching Chinese to foreigners to fill openings as teaching assistants in a U.S. college for the academic year 2008-09. The position will provide room and board, a monthly stipend, and opportunity to take courses on a part-time basis at the host institutions. However, the applicant's primary obligation is to teach, and study must be seen as a secondary goal.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

 ◆ Be a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese.
 ◆ Must be no younger than 21 and no older than 29 at time of application.
 ◆ Must clearly demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity and professionalism.
 ◆ Ideally, FLTAs are outgoing and dynamic individuals with a great sense of humor.
 ◆ Fluency in English is mandatory. A score of no less than 79 (IBT), 213 (CBT),
      550 (PBT) or IELTS (6.0) on the TOEFL is required.
 ◆ Possess a bachelor's degree with a good academic record.
 ◆ Prior teaching experience is preferred.

◆ A copy of an online application
◆ An application fee in the amount of US$75.00 made payable to the Institute of
     International Education.
◆ Three letters of reference from faculty or employers.
◆ Official academic transcripts from all post-secondary institutions.
◆ Official copies of all post-secondary diplomas.
◆ Medical History and Examination Form.
◆ A copy of a TOEFL/IELTS score, or a copy of the registration ticket for TOEFL    
    (IBT/CBT/PBT) or IELTS (see above).
◆ Native Language Assessment Form.
