Bachelor Degree-Granting Institutions

As of 1997, there were 82 MOE-recognized institutions in Taiwan which granted the bachelor's degree. Thirty-seven were private, 42 were national, and two were municipal. Of the 42 public institutions, nine were teachers colleges and three were normal universities.

Eight private institutes of technology have been established since 1989, and two such institutes have been upgraded from public junior colleges, while one public institute of technology (National Taiwan Institute of Technology) has been established since 1974.
