Apartments ¡@¡@
¡@¡@Suzanne Chen sighed with frustration as
she looked through the "for rent" ads in the
paper. She had just arrived in town and was now looking for an apartment near the
university where she was about to begin her grad studies. There were so many listings, and
so many decisions that she would have to make.
"Should I get a studio?" she asked herself.
"Maybe I should try to find a roommate... but how do
you make sure you don't end up with a roommate that is a
total loser? Or even worse, what happens if I get a
roommie that's a party animal and I can never get
anything done??"
¡@¡@She tossed the paper
aside and looked out the window of her hotel room. Maybe
I should just go for a walk and see if there are any
"for rent" signs on any of the buildings near
campus. With all of these issues floating through her
head, she slowly drifted off to sleep.
¡@¡@As she opened the front
door of her new apartment, she was hit by the thick smell
of insense and the sound of crashing drums. Inside it was
dim, the only light was coming from a candle in the
middle of the floor. Her new roommate who she was about
to meet for the first time jumped out of a shadow. He was
about seven feet tall and his head was completely shaved
except for a little tuft of purple right in the center!
He was twiddling drum sticks in his massive hands.
Suzanne gulped as she realized that her roommate was a
new-age, skinhead drummer. She thought to herself,
"I can tell already that this year is going to be a
blast!"
¡@¡@Suzanne woke with a start, covered in a cold
sweat. "Phew," she thought, "Just a
dream!" She'd heard about
all of the horror stories and wanted to get a head start
on finding a place. She grabbed the apartment section of
her newspaper and her purse and set out to find her dream
apartment. In the next three weeks, she worried not only about finding an apartment, but also a roommate,
and how she would deal with her. Little did Suzanne know, but she would
end up finding the perfect roommate with whom she would
become fast friends.
