About Alice

　　Alice is a sexy, single, sixty-year-old with big hair and a sassy attitude. With her long purple fingernails and that beehive hairdo, she could very well be one of the most fashionable women "wo-manning" the pumps of any gas station on the US 97 highway. You'll recognize her the minute you pull up to the pump, especially with that characteristically large wad of gum that she's always blowing into huge bubbles (especially since she finally gave up smoking and tossed her last pack of Lucky's in the trash). Ask her about any topic... she's perhaps not the most knowledgeable, but definitely the most opinionated. When it comes to American culture and gas, you can be assured that she's an expert! So enjoy your Pump 'n' Go experience, and take care not to run over her dog Ralphy (he's getting kind of old and is blind in one eye).

In Real Life...

Alice's real life assistant (and the mastermind behind all of Alice's best ideas) is Andrew Ryan, a 1996 graduate of Northwestern University. During college, Andrew supplemented his social life with a degree in Communication Studies (concentrating on interpersonal--intercultural and computer-mediated). After his parents moved to Singapore in 1992, he became interested in studying Chinese and went to China in 1994 with WorldTeach. After graduation, he came to Taiwan to study Chinese and complete an educational research project with the help of a Fulbright Scholarship. Andrew is currently involved with devising ways to perfect his Chinese accent so that one day he can "pass" (ha ha). Otherwise, he would be quite content becoming a VJ or perhaps the first white Chinese rock star.
